How To Set & Understand B-Roll Orientation in the Library

When browsing the Pexels library to select a B-Roll clip, you will see a dropdown filter next to the search bar with three options: Best Fit, Landscape, and Portrait. This filter controls the orientation of the footage shown in the results and it is important to select the right one for your video.

Why orientation matters

B-Roll footage comes in two orientations. Landscape footage is horizontal and fills a widescreen frame. Portrait footage is vertical and fills a tall narrow frame. If you add landscape footage to a vertical video, the clip will not fill the frame correctly and black bars will appear on the sides. If you add portrait footage to a horizontal video, black bars will appear on the top and bottom. Getting the orientation right ensures your B-Roll looks seamless and professional in the final video.

Best Fit

This is the default option. When Best Fit is selected, OneTake AI automatically determines the correct orientation based on the format of your video and filters the library results accordingly. If you are unsure which orientation your video uses, Best Fit is always the safe choice.

Landscape

Select Landscape when your video is in standard widescreen format. This applies to long-form YouTube videos, videos embedded on websites or course platforms, webinar recordings, Zoom recordings, and any content designed to be watched on a desktop screen or television. Landscape footage has a 16:9 aspect ratio and fills the widescreen frame completely.

Portrait

Select Portrait when your video is in vertical format. This applies to YouTube Shorts, Instagram Reels, TikTok videos, and any content designed to be watched on a mobile screen held upright. Portrait footage has a 9:16 aspect ratio and fills the vertical frame completely.

Once you have selected the correct orientation filter, use the search bar to find footage that matches what you need, browse the results, and click Add Clip to insert the selected footage at the chosen point in your script.

Asking the OneTake AI Agent to Add B-Roll

You can also instruct the OneTake AI agent directly through the chat to add B-Roll to your video. This is useful when you want B-Roll added quickly without navigating through the script editor manually.

In the chat inside your project, you can type instructions such as:

"Add B-Roll to my video"

"Add B-Roll to my video using best fit orientation"

"Add B-Roll to my video in landscape"

"Add B-Roll to my video in portrait"

The agent will process your request and add B-Roll footage to your video using the orientation you specified. If you do not specify an orientation, the agent will default to Best Fit and select the most appropriate footage based on your video format and content.

This method is particularly useful when you want B-Roll applied across the full video quickly, or when you are already in a conversation with the agent and want to add B-Roll as part of a broader set of edits without switching panels.
