Importing a YouTube Video into OneTake
You can easily bring in any YouTube video and turn it into a full OneTake project. The platform supports multiple import methods, and YouTube is one of the fastest ways to start working with existing content.
This guide walks you through the full process, from choosing the YouTube import option to chatting with the A.I. once your video is ready.
Step 1. Open the import options
When you enter your workspace, you will see the “What do you want to do?” section at the top of the page. This area includes all available ways to bring content into OneTake.
The import options include:
- My Device (upload from your computer)
- Camera
- Audio
- Screencast
- Google Drive
- Google Photos
- Link
- YouTube
- Dropbox
- Zoom
These give you flexibility depending on where your content is stored. For YouTube videos, select the YouTube option.
Step 2. Paste the YouTube link

After clicking the YouTube card, a simple window will appear with a field labeled “Enter YouTube link to import a video.”
- Paste the full YouTube URL into the field.
- Click the Import button.
OneTake will start fetching the video immediately.
Step 3. Wait for the upload and processing to begin

Once the import starts, you will see a progress screen. This shows:
- The thumbnail once detected
- The YouTube link
- The current upload percentage
After the upload completes, OneTake automatically creates a new project and begins preparing your video.
Step 4. Let OneTake process the video
The platform will begin the preparation workflow. Depending on your settings, the system may:
- Transcribe the video
- Enhance the audio
- Generate subtitles
- Remove stutters or filler words
- Trim silences
- Organize the content into chapters
- Apply your custom vocabulary
- Apply any instructions saved in your account
- Add virtual cameraman adjustments
You can customize which steps are used now or later in your account settings. You do not need to stay on the page while this is happening. Everything is processed on the server.
Step 5. Start chatting with the A.I.
Once the video has been fully processed, the project becomes active. You can now:
- Ask the A.I. to rewrite sections
- Request summaries
- Extract ideas
- Generate scripts
- Produce shorts or variations
- Edit messaging and tone
- And much more
Your YouTube video is now fully integrated into the OneTake editor.
Additional features available after your video is imported
Once your YouTube video has finished importing and processing, OneTake provides a Later section with optional tools you can apply to your project at any time. These features do not run automatically; you can enable them whenever you need them.
Shorts Suggestions
You can ask OneTake to identify interesting moments from your video and suggest potential Shorts.
This feature analyzes your content and highlights segments that may work well as short-form videos for platforms like YouTube Shorts, TikTok, or Instagram Reels.
Video Translation
If you want your video available in other languages, you can use the translation tools found in the Later section.
OneTake can translate your video into different languages depending on your subscription level. After translation, you can review or customize the results before exporting.
Other optional enhancements
Depending on your plan, additional tools may appear in this section, such as background removal or other advanced features. These can be applied whenever you choose, even after the initial edit is complete.
