How to create Shorts in OneTakeAI?

OneTake allows you to turn any long video into short, engaging clips that are ready for YouTube Shorts, TikTok, Instagram Reels, and Facebook Reels. You can generate Shorts automatically or guide the A.I. with your own instructions. This article walks you through each step of the process.

Shorts can be generated for any video that is longer than 30 seconds. If your video is shorter than 30 seconds, the Shorts tool will not be available.

Step 1. Open your project

Open any video project you want to use.

Once the project loads, you’ll see the main controls at the top of the editor.

Look for the “Shorts” button in the top menu bar.

Step 2. Open the Shorts panel

Click Shorts.

A side panel will open on the right side of your screen showing the Shorts workspace.

If this is your first time, the panel will be empty. You will see a button labeled:

“Suggest Shorts from this video” Click it to begin.

Step 3. Choose how OneTake should generate your Shorts

When you click “Suggest Shorts from this video,” a window appears with two options:

Option 1. Just Suggest The Best Shorts

OneTake automatically analyzes your entire video and identifies the strongest, most engaging moments.

Option 2. Suggest Shorts Based on My Specific Instructions

This allows you to guide the A.I. If you choose this, you can type instructions such as:

  • “Focus on motivational moments.”
  • “Highlight the funny clips.”
  • “Pick parts where I explain the main strategy.”
  • “Use clips where I talk about overcoming challenges.”

The A.I. will use these instructions when selecting segments. Once you choose your preference, click Generate Shorts.

Step 4. The Shorts generation process begins

After clicking Generate Shorts, you will see a confirmation message:

“Short video generation process has started. This may take a few moments to complete.” This appears both at the top corner and at the bottom of the editor. You can continue working in your project. OneTake handles the generation in the background There’s no need to keep the window in focus.

You can leave the panel open or return later to check the results.

Step 5. View your generated Shorts

Once OneTake finishes analyzing the video, your Shorts will appear inside the Shorts panel.

For each clip, you’ll typically be able to:

  • Preview it
  • Edit or refine the clip
  • Customize style and layout
  • Export it directly

Where to find your Shorts inside your projects

After Shorts have been generated for a video, you will see a Shorts button appear on that project card inside the My Projects page.

This allows you to quickly:

  • view all Shorts generated for that video
  • open the Shorts panel directly
  • regenerate or refine Shorts without reopening the full editor

This button only appears on projects where Shorts already exist. Shorts remain linked to the project, so you can return to them whenever you need to create more content.

Tips for getting the best Shorts

  • Choose clear instructions if you want specific types of clips.
  • Use longer videos; more content gives the A.I. more moments to pull from.
  • Review and refine the clips before exporting.
  • Generate Shorts regularly to maximize reach on YouTube, TikTok, and Instagram.

Shorts can be generated for any video that is over 30 seconds long.

After Shorts are generated, a Shorts button will appear on the project card inside My Projects, making it easy to find and manage your Shorts at any time.
